Terms of Service

Chess Coach Network is an online marketplace that connects chess coaches with students. We provide tools for coaches to list their services, for students to discover and book lessons, and for both parties to manage their coaching relationships.

We are a platform, not a party to the coaching relationship itself. Coaches are independent service providers, not employees or agents of Chess Coach Network.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Platform. By using the Platform, you represent that:

• You are at least 13 years of age
• You have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms
• All information you provide is accurate and current

If you are between 13 and 18 years old, your parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms on your behalf.

You must create an account to access most features of the Platform. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at legal@chesscoachnetwork.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

You may not create accounts on behalf of others without their permission, or use another user's account without authorization.

Students may register to browse coaches, save favorites, and book lessons. Students agree to treat coaches respectfully, honor booked lessons or cancel with reasonable notice per the cancellation policy in effect at the time of booking, and pay for services as agreed.

When a student books a lesson and a coach confirms it, a direct agreement is formed between the student and coach. Chess Coach Network facilitates the booking process but is not responsible for the quality, safety, or outcome of any coaching session.

Disputes between coaches and students should first be attempted to be resolved directly between the parties. We may, at our discretion, assist in resolving disputes but are under no obligation to do so.

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. By transacting on the Platform, you agree to Stripe's Terms of Service in addition to these Terms. Coaches onboarding for payouts will enter into a direct agreement with Stripe.

Chess Coach Network may charge a platform fee on transactions. Current fee structures are disclosed at the time of coach onboarding and may be updated with notice.

All payments are in U.S. dollars unless otherwise stated.

Cancellation and refund policies may vary by coach and are disclosed at the time of booking. Generally:

• Cancellations made with sufficient advance notice may be eligible for a full refund or rescheduling.
• Late cancellations or no-shows may result in forfeiture of the lesson fee at the coach's discretion.
• If a coach cancels a confirmed booking, the student will receive a full refund.

Chess Coach Network reserves the right to issue refunds at its discretion in cases of platform error or exceptional circumstances.

You agree not to use the Platform to:

• Violate any applicable law or regulation
• Harass, abuse, or harm any other user
• Post false, misleading, or fraudulent information
• Solicit payments or arrange lessons outside the Platform in order to circumvent fees
• Scrape, copy, or systematically extract data from the Platform
• Introduce malicious code or interfere with Platform operations
• Impersonate any person or entity
• Use the Platform for any purpose other than its intended use

Violation of these rules may result in suspension or permanent termination of your account.

You retain ownership of content you submit to the Platform, including your profile information, bio, and messages. By submitting content, you grant Chess Coach Network a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and reproduce that content in connection with operating and promoting the Platform.

You are responsible for ensuring that content you submit does not infringe any third-party rights or violate any law. We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms or that we determine is otherwise inappropriate.

The Chess Coach Network name, logo, website design, and all original content created by us are our intellectual property. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without our written permission.

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not endorse or guarantee the quality of any coach or coaching session.

Your use of the Platform and any coaching services obtained through it is at your own risk.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Chess Coach Network shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Platform or any coaching services, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform shall not exceed the greater of $100 or the total amount you paid to Chess Coach Network in the 12 months preceding the claim.

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion, with or without notice. You may close your account at any time by contacting us.

Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will do so, including sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by a prominent notice on the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in accordance with applicable law.
